The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) successfully conducted its Digital Payments Promotion Campaign for 2025 on March 22nd and 23rd, 2025, in Nuwara Eliya. The event, held at the Gregory Lake car park, saw the participation of the Governor of CBSL, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, and aimed to accelerate the adoption of digital payment methods within the region.
Mobile payment app service providers, including banks, finance companies, and e-money service providers such as telecommunication companies, joined Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in this initiative. The event facilitated public registration for mobile payment apps, promoting safe, convenient, and cost-effective alternatives to cash transactions for daily needs. Attendees also experienced the benefits of the LANKAQR payment method, receiving special discounts on goods and services from participating vendors.
The CBSL encouraged public engagement, providing an opportunity to enhance awareness of the latest digital payment methods and receive personalized guidance on using mobile phones for digital transactions.
